Leeds Arts University

The only specialist arts university in the North of England, tracing its roots to 1846 (became a university in 2017). BA (Hons) Music Production covers studio production, sound design, live sound and recording, mixing and mastering.

UK tuition is £9,790/yr for 2026/27 entry, rising to £10,050/yr for 2027/28 (students who already hold a degree pay £10,540/£10,800). Studios include a 24-track analogue/digital recording room, a Dante-networked performance venue, four production rooms and a dedicated mixing room, recently upgraded with the Focusrite RedNet Dante audio-over-IP system.

Course leader Dr James Bagshaw is the frontman and guitarist of Temples (praised by Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher, signed to Heavenly Recordings) who completed a PhD at the University of Hull; fellow course leader Chris Lawson-Quick has played Glastonbury four times as keyboardist for The Dunwells, and was previously in Shadowlark (Vital Music/Warner Chappell) and Ellen and the Escapades, winners of the 2010 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition. Guest speakers have included Skin OBE (Skunk Anansie) and Imogen Heap.
