SAE Institute Leeds
private schoolSAE Leeds shares a brand-new, purpose-built 17,000 sq ft building called 'The Switch' inside the Electric Press with ICMP Leeds, both opening for the first time in September 2025, SAE's first campus in the north of England. Part of the global SAE network, founded in Sydney in 1976; UK degrees validated by the University of Hertfordshire since 2022/23 (Middlesex University validated earlier cohorts). Audio Production BA/BSc (Hons) is £9,790/yr over 3 years or £11,750/yr on a 2-year accelerated route, the same fees as SAE's London, Liverpool and Leamington Spa campuses; postgraduate MA/MSc routes in Audio Engineering & Music Technology, Creative Music Production and Songwriting are also offered. SAE runs 5-day Summer Schools (Mastering, Game Audio) in Leeds, but no price is published anywhere: treat these as enquire-only. Worth knowing: SAE UK and ICMP are, since a 2024 merger, trading names of the same legal entity, ICMP Management Limited, itself majority-acquired in 2023 by the French AD Education Group, so despite sharing a building and looking like two separate schools, SAE Leeds and ICMP Leeds are corporate siblings under one owner.
ICMP Leeds
private schoolICMP's Leeds campus occupies a Grade II listed building on Millennium Square that began life around 1900 as a printing works for Chorley and Pickersgill, since converted into 'The Switch', a purpose-built creative campus opened September 2025, shared with SAE Leeds. Full-time degrees plus short and evening courses are offered, but all seven previously-advertised Leeds evening courses (Ableton, Logic, vocals, songwriting, DJing, Live Sound) currently show no scheduled dates, so the old £249 evening-course price should be treated as stale rather than current. The only live, bookable, priced Leeds short courses right now are two 5-day Summer Schools: Music Production (Ableton) and Introduction to DJing, both £299. The BA (Hons) Creative Music Production degree is £9,790/yr, the same national fee as ICMP's London campus. As with SAE Leeds, worth knowing that ICMP and SAE UK are, since a 2024 merger, trading names of the same legal entity, ICMP Management Limited, majority-owned since 2023 by France's AD Education Group.
Leeds Conservatoire
universityFounded 1965 as Leeds Music Centre by Joseph Stones, became Leeds College of Music in 1972 and Leeds Conservatoire in 2020. BA (Hons) Music Production is JAMES-accredited and, while the Conservatoire has applied for its own Degree Awarding Powers, is currently validated by the University of Hull, taught across 13 recording and mixing studios with Audient, SSL and Neve consoles, one with a 5.1 surround setup for film-sync work, plus six Apple Mac Labs. UK tuition is £9,790/yr for 2026/27 entry. Course leader Craig Golding has been at the Conservatoire since 2003 and led the BA (Hons) Music Production programme since 2006, an active freelance sound engineer/producer since 2000 across UK venues with choirs, orchestras, singer-songwriters and jazz ensembles; no specific commercial artist credits are published to name-check, so treat his profile as solidly academic/freelance rather than name-brand production work. Alumnus Alex Carrie's band KRRUM passed 5 million Spotify plays on "Evil Twin" and played Radio 1's Big Weekend.
Leeds Arts University
universityThe only specialist arts university in the North of England, tracing its roots to 1846 (became a university in 2017). BA (Hons) Music Production covers studio production, sound design, live sound and recording, mixing and mastering. UK tuition is £9,790/yr for 2026/27 entry, rising to £10,050/yr for 2027/28 (students who already hold a degree pay £10,540/£10,800). Studios include a 24-track analogue/digital recording room, a Dante-networked performance venue, four production rooms and a dedicated mixing room, recently upgraded with the Focusrite RedNet Dante audio-over-IP system. Course leader Dr James Bagshaw is the frontman and guitarist of Temples (praised by Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher, signed to Heavenly Recordings) who completed a PhD at the University of Hull; fellow course leader Chris Lawson-Quick has played Glastonbury four times as keyboardist for The Dunwells, and was previously in Shadowlark (Vital Music/Warner Chappell) and Ellen and the Escapades, winners of the 2010 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition. Guest speakers have included Skin OBE (Skunk Anansie) and Imogen Heap.
Leeds City College
further educationFormed in 2009 from a three-way merger of Park Lane College, Leeds Thomas Danby College and Leeds College of Technology (expanded again in 2011 by absorbing Joseph Priestley College), now the largest FE college in Leeds, part of Luminate Education Group. A BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music Production (course code 79213-01) is live and bookable: free for 16-18s, £1,417 for adult (19+) learners, covering Exploring Music, Professional Development, Self-promotion in the Music Industry, Music Production, Sound Engineering and a Music Project; entry needs 4 GCSEs grade 3+ including English or maths, plus an interview. Progression continues onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in Music Production (course code 73872-01, 2 years including Top-up), free for 16-18 year olds, taught across two recording studios and three production suites at Quarry Hill, next to Leeds Playhouse and within walking distance of Leeds Conservatoire; the Extended Diploma's adult (19+) fee still isn't published: contact the college directly for a quote. A more recent Ofsted inspection (4 February 2025, published March 2025) rated the college 'Good' overall, with 'Outstanding' specifically for Personal development and for Adult learning programmes.
Leeds Beckett University

UK tuition is £9,790/yr for 2026/27 entry (subject to parliamentary approval; falls back to £9,535/yr if not passed); international fee £16,840/yr. Course director Tom Bowers, at Leeds Beckett since 2004, mixed the sound for the award-winning feature film 'How to Kill Monsters' (2023) and the award-winning video game 'Dead Reset' (2025). Runs an Artist in Residence programme with past participants including Utah Saints, I Monster, Chris T-T and Ian Prowse; 93.3% of graduates are in work or further study 15 months after graduating (HESA Graduate Outcomes 23-24).

private schoolCommunity interest company in Pudsey, West Leeds, founded 2021 by Kate Frazer and Daniele De Lissandri (confirmed via Companies House: The Music Box Yorkshire CIC, incorporated January 2021), teaching private and group DJ and Ableton/Logic production lessons for young people and adults. A pay-as-you-go Adult DJ Academy group session is £12 (or £10/session on a 4-week block); a 10-week Adult Music Production Group is £100 (£10/session); a 2-day Weekend Beginners DJ Course is £99; 1-to-1 tuition runs £40/hour (£60 for 90 minutes, £75 for 2 hours).
