Cardiff and Vale College
Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) is the largest further education college in Wales, formed in 2011 from the merger of Barry College and Coleg Glan Hafren. Its Music (Production) Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma run at the City Centre Campus on Dumballs Road, a two-year full-time course using two specialist production suites with Apple Mac workstations running Pro Tools, Logic Pro X and Ableton Live.
Students can progress into CAVC's own higher education provision: a DipHE in Performance & Recording and a BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production top-up degree for those with 240 HE credits at Levels 4 and 5. Entry to the Level 3 course needs 5 GCSEs A*-C including English and Maths, or an equivalent Level 2 Diploma at Merit, plus an interview; there are no exams, with assessment through practical and written projects.
The college states past learners on this pathway have gone into work with the BBC, music event companies and podcast production companies. Course fees are set individually by age and funding status; the Level 3 course carries a £65 annual studio fee on top of any tuition costs.
