Cambridge Regional College
further educationCambridge Regional College teaches music production from its Kings Hedges Road campus (it also has a second site in Huntingdon), with a specialist team and its own recording studios and DJ facilities. The main qualification is the UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Music Performance & Production, a two-year course split into production and performance pathways and taught mainly in Logic Pro X. Entry normally needs four GCSEs at grades 9-4 including English or maths, or a Level 2 UAL Diploma or BTEC First Diploma in Music. The college has also announced a BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Music Production, a one-year, two-days-a-week course due to start in September 2027. Fees are not published on the college's own site. The Level 3 course covers studio recording and production, mixing and mastering, and live sound engineering, delivered by working musicians and producers, with routes into commercial releases and performances at external venues.
Anglia Ruskin University
universityAnglia Ruskin University's Cambridge campus, on East Road, CB1 1PT, runs two undergraduate degrees in this area: BA (Hons) Music Production and BSc (Hons) Audio and Music Technology. Both are 3 years full-time, extending to 4 years with a placement or foundation year, and both use Pro Tools, Logic Pro and Ableton Live across five recording studios with analogue, digital and hybrid mixing desks, plus five grand pianos and a podcast/video capture setup. UK tuition is £9,790/yr for 2026/27 (£17,500 for international students, plus £1,700 for the optional placement year). The Audio and Music Technology degree carries JAMES accreditation. The university holds a Gold Teaching Excellence Framework award and was named Times Higher Education University of the Year in 2023. Modules cover mixing and mastering, sound design for games and film, and professional DJ techniques, taught by staff including senior lecturers Richard Edwards, Dr Sven-Amin Lembke and Dr Chanan Hanspal, technical team leader Mark Pickering, lecturer Tim Webster and Deputy Head of School Dr William Campbell. Guest sessions have included a masterclass from pop producer Phil Harding, who has produced for the Clash, Killing Joke, Dead or Alive, Belinda Carlisle, Rick Astley and East 17.
Centre for Music Performance (University of Cambridge)
universityThe University of Cambridge's Centre for Music Performance runs Music Production and DJ Classes from 11 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DP, and is open to students as well as staff and the wider local community. Music Production Classes run termly, led by local tutor Chris Andrews, primarily on Logic Pro using the Centre's iMacs, though students can bring their own laptop and use software such as Ableton Live or BandLab. DJ Classes run weekly through term at West Road Concert Hall, taught by professional DJ Karla Polk (DJ Boss Lady), taking beginners from a first attempt at DJing up to performing at a college event. All equipment is provided, plus loanable Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 controllers and Pioneer XDJ-RX3 decks for practice between sessions. A masterclass series runs alongside the regular classes; past visiting producers include Joe Armon-Jones of Ezra Collective, Gnasha and Jono Buchanan. Places on the DJ Classes are limited and need regular weekly attendance. Pricing is not published separately and signup is bundled with the Centre's wider instrumental lessons enrolment.
